Meet Sofie one of our star Youth Employment Plus success stories!
After working for three solid years at one of Rotorua’s major tourist operators, Sofie suddenly found herself being made redundant as a result of Covid-19.
She was devastated at the loss and had no idea where she wanted to go in regards to employment. While the pandemic has cost Rotorua countless jobs, Sofie wasted no time in taking proactive steps.
She made an appointment with one of our youth employment navigators. After looking at her needs and building a pathway plan, the team began looking in to options available to her. One of those options included moving in to the administration field.
We applied for many roles but to no avail. The team spotted a junior admin role at BOP Plumbing and Gas. Sofie applied for the role and got a phone interview two weeks later. She was then invited to part two of the interview process and completed an online test. The owner Sarah then asked for a face to face interview. Sofie went to meet with the team at BOP Plumbing and Gas and by the end of the day Sofie had been offered the position! The fact that her previous employers spoke highly of her worked in her favor also.
Sofie started on 12th October and is loving it!
Her new employer describes her as having bubbly personality and a willingness to learn!
Congratulations Sofie! You are a star!
